WWF-Holzhandelsprojekt erlaubt illegalen Holzeinschlag und Waldzerstörung und versagt bei der Verhinderung von Menschenrechtsverletzungen

Swift, meaningful action must follow review of Cambodian sand dredging trade – Global Witness

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's promise to review the environmental impacts of sand-dredging on the country's coastline is a welcome development, said Global Witness today. It is now critical that the review brings in effective regulation of dredging operations in order to protect the country’s valuable ecosystems and coastal communities, and that corruption associated with the trade is meaningfully addressed.

Global Witness calls on Congress to pass Tax Havens Bill to curb money laundering and tax dodging

Global Witness welcomes today’s introduction of legislation that would help combat offshore secrecy, tax evasion and corruption, and urges its swift passage into law. The Stop Tax Haven Abuse Act, introduced by Senator Levin, would make it harder for individuals and companies to avoid paying their taxes, and would close loopholes that currently allow U.S. professionals to facilitate money laundering, including by corrupt officials.

The new state of South Sudan must guarantee transparency and accountability in its oil sector in order to demonstrate its commitments to sustainable development and combating corruption, said Global Witness today. The call comes on the eve of the South’s independence from the north on July 9.

Global Witness welcomes implementation of the Bribery Act, but warns political will is needed for it to succeed

Global Witness welcomes today’s implementation of the UK Bribery Act which, if enforced correctly, will help curb corruption and end poverty around the world. But the group warns that the government will need to provide the necessary resources to effectively enforce the act if its anti-corruption credentials are to be taken seriously. The Bribery Act makes it an offence for any company or individual with strong links to the UK to pay bribes to foreign public officials. In the case of companies, the Act makes them liable if they fail to prevent bribes paid on their behalf.
