Cambodian communities submit complaint to World Bank over bankrolling of Vietnamese rubber giant behind land grabs and human rights abuse

Global Witness welcomes and supports a complaint submitted to the International Financial Corporation (IFC) today by Cambodian communities whose lives have been devastated by Vietnamese rubber baron Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL). The IFC – the private lending arm of the World Bank – invests in HAGL, a company responsible for environmental and human rights abuses in their plantations in both Cambodia and Laos.

Global Witness fights misuse of data laws that threatens journalistic freedom

Congo’s decision to suspend passage of oil law through parliament is good news

Lire en français Congo has suspended the passage of a controversial oil bill through parliament, in order to allow more time for consultation. It has been criticised by MPs in Congo, donor governments, UNESCO and campaigners, including Global Witness, for failing to include strong anti-corruption or environmental protection measures.

Mining Companies and Civil Society Put Forward Strong Recommendations for Increasing Transparency in the Canadian Mining Sector

Global Witness welcomes recommendations released today by Canadian civil society and mining associations that lay out a framework for Canada to adopt a revenue transparency provision for all publicly listed mining companies in Canada. The Resource Revenue Transparency Working Group, comprised of the Mining Association of Canada, Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada, Publish What You Pay-Canada and the Revenue Watch Institute, calls for all Canadian publicly-listed companies to publicly disclose project-level payments to domestic and foreign governments, with no exception
