5 May 2020, London – In response to the increased vulnerability of human rights defenders brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, a broad assortment of civil society organisations urged the governments of Colombia to adopt all measures necessary to guarantee the human rights of defenders, social leaders, and ethnic communities in those countries.

The country has been widely regarded among the most critical countries for land and environmental defenders. Hence, alongside over a hundred organisations, Global Witness calls State to ensure their safety since lockdown measures have endangered their situation.
