Global Witness CEO Mike Davis has written to Simon Emmanuel Kervin Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to demand changes to the admittance process for the Conference of Parties (COP). This comes after a Global Witness investigation revealed that there were over 100 more fossil fuel lobbyists at this year’s climate talks than in 2021.
In the letter, Global Witness strongly recommends that the United Nations take measures to guarantee that all participants at future COPs are serious about advancing the climate agenda, and do what organisations across the globe are calling for in excluding major polluters from climate negotiations.
