COP Climate Summit
COP29 will be hosted by petrostate Azerbaijan – one of the world's producers of the same oil and gas driving the climate crisis and preventing the mass transition to cheaper, cleaner energy sources. Key agreements were reached at COP28 in 2023, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates – including countries agreeing to begin transitioning away from fossil fuels (an essential step to limit global temperature rise to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels and avoid the worst impacts of climate change), and initiate pledges to the loss and damage fund (which will help climate-vulnerable countries pay for the recovery costs from climate-related disasters). But much, much more ambitious action is needed. The choices and actions taken this COP29 will impact us all - and future generations to come.
