Global Witness is a not-for-profit limited company limited by guarantee (registered in England, company number 02871809).
Headquartered in London, the organisation has affiliated offices around the world and works with a global network of consultants and partners, all contributing to our shared goal of creating a future where the planet and people thrive together.
We rely on donations from foundations and individuals who recognise the importance of our work and want to empower transformative environmental change.
How Global Witness is run
Global Witness is governed by a Board of Directors, who work with the Leadership Team to set the priorities and strategic direction of our work around the world, while also ensuring accountability and effective management.
The organisation also has an Advisory Council, made up of prominent individuals with experience in areas relevant to the work we do, who provide regular advice and support to staff.

How we are funded
Global Witness is mainly funded by charitable grants from trusts, foundations and institutional sources. In addition, we receive donations from generous individuals as well as partnerships with other NGOs and multilaterals.
Most funding received is spent supporting our investigative and campaigning work. A small proportion goes towards indirect costs and governance.
Our investigative and campaigning work adheres to the IPSO Code of Conduct and editorial independence is guaranteed. Decisions made by our campaigners are final and independent of any influence from our funders.

Our charitable arms
In addition to direct funding, Global Witness is supported by the Global Witness Trust and Global Witness Foundation.
Both the Trust and Foundation support initiatives that aim to highlight the impact of environmental issues, as well as advancing research and investigations in areas affected by environmental damage and its impact on local communities.
To maintain their independence and integrity, both Global Witness Trust and Global Witness Foundation are independent of Global Witness and its governance structure.
